My boyfriend needs international health insurance as we are going traveling soon, can anyone help?
My boyfriend is American and needs health insurance, not for the States but for the rest of the world, mostly New Zealand. Can anyone tell us the best for the cheapest price?

He should talk to a representative of the insurance company that carries his health insurance now. Most of them have traveller's insurance as well.
|||I¡¯d look for message boards on the Web that are for travelers ¨C Yahoo! Answers is probably a little too new to accommodate such a specific question. You also might want to contact your state insurance office and see if they have a record of complaints/customer satisfaction with a particular company. They usually do with normal health plans; I don¡¯t know how it works with travel insurance. Here are a couple of places I¡¯ve seen mentioned in some groups:
Travel Assistance International: www.travelassistance.com
MEDEX Assistance: www.medexassist.com
Most posts I read said not to buy insurance from a travel agent or travel company because the price is often higher because they¡¯ll start with a low price and then add expensive policy provisions that provide coverage other plans have normally. Also, your beau¡¯s current health plan might already cover you. He might have to pay upfront for health services outside the country and then get reimbursed by his insurer when he returns ¨C potentially a lot of hassle. Call your insurance company and find out.
If you still want some guidance, try qualified health insurance agents. They should be able to answer your questions about coverage in a few minutes. MostChoice.com has a quick and easy way to get in touch with agent with no obligation to buy anything. Just fill out a form, wait for agents to contact you, and tell them what you want and the price you want. Then let them do the legwork for you. Even if you don¡¯t find anything you want to purchase, you can at least benefit from their experience.

|||Check with the company your current insurance is with - they can add the international insurance just for the time you are going to be out of country.
If you don't have medical insurance, check with your local travel agency -- they usually know of companies that will write a short term policy to cover you.
There are so many variables that affect the price of medical insurance there is no way to know which company would be the least expensive in your situation without contacting the companies
