International Health Insurance?
Can anyone recommend health insurance for Americans working outside the US? Some of the plans I am familiar with include AETNA Global, Clements International, and CIGNA International. Has anyone had positive experience with any of these plans, or know of other similar plans?

The Lloyd's of London has a good program offered through their underwriters. This online program was just released. It allows you to apply, buy, and print your proof of coverage from your computer.

For a period of 6 months I was transfered to an Aetna Global Benefits policy. My company moved me to Dubai to set up an office there.
The thing that I really appreciated about the Aetna policy was the flexibility . For instance, my wife and child stayed behind and was still offered a CONUS (48 State plan) versus my coverage was the global plan.
Suggestion, have some money readily available when enrolled in such plan. In my experiences, the doctors overseas were cash for service. They would not accept a payment directly from the carrier. Aetna ; refunded me the money rather quickly after I supplied them with receipts. Prescriptions were sadly cheaper and much easier to access overseas then in the US.
Also, reach out to our members of the workforce assigned to the same region to determine where you can find access to treatment. This was by far my most significant hurdle.
I recommend IMG (International Medical Group) to many of my clients who are traveling abroad. Reasonable rates with multiple deductibles to choose from. The easiest way to do this would be to contact a local insurance broker in your area.
Look under INSURANCE in the yellow pages and find adds that have something like "insurance services, inc." or the like.
If you have a group medical plan under your employer, you can also go to the broker who handles your company's insurance as they will be able to shop for the best plan & rates and will help you thru underwriting.
I can only speak for California, but your rates will not be any different if you go direct or thru an agent. The main benefit for you is that the only work you have to do is cut a check and fill out the application, a good agent will do everything else.
