Whats the maximum age for having laser eye surgery?
My dad is 46 years old and has a short distance eye problem is it too late for him to have laser eye surgery? He called an eye specialist and he said it was too late. Is this true?

In general, once someone is presbyopic (needs reading glasses) laser eye surgery is not the best option. Additionally, as we near cataract age, laser eye surgery is not recommended because it makes it difficult to properly choose the intraocular lens (IOL) implanted at the time of cataract surgery.
Two options that may be available to your father are Phakic IOLs (PIOLs) and Clear Lens Extraction (also called Refractive Lens Exchange or RLE). The first option involves placing a lens inside the eye in front of your natural lens. The second option is essentially the same as cataract surgery (only there is no cataract to remove, just the natural lens in the eye).
Which option is best for your father will depend on a number of things which would require examination by a surgeon who performs these types of refractive surgery. It is critical that you find a surgeon with experience in both PIOLs and RLE. I have written an article, "10 Things You Must Know Before Choosing Your Cataract Surgeon" that can help in choosing any type of surgeon. To receive a copy of this document follow this link:

Why would it be too late?
The extra issue that needs to be considered is the loss of adaptability for near which is cutting in for this age group.
The eyes corrected for distance, would need, or would soon need a reading correction.
If glasses are currently only needed for distance, that *could* mean laser treatment offers little benefit, merely swapping near glasses for distance ones, depending on the existing Rx.
An alternate procedure to be considered in a few years time when the two Rx effect has definitely appeared is clear lens replacement. Effectively cataract surgery before cataracts have appeared. There is the possibility there (not everyone prefers it) of bifocal implant lenses, giving adjusted vision for distance and near.
20 is maximum age. the power of your dad glass is same for 2 years. Power is same for 2 yrs can eligible for laser treatment.
